PTSD and Bowen

As any sufferer of PTSD will know, this is a condition which lives in the body as much as the mind. Symptoms like hypervigilance, disturbed sleep, and muscle tension, are all signs of a nervous system stuck in fight-or-flight mode.

Bowen Therapy uses gentle, rolling movements over fascia in order to:

  • Calm the autonomic nervous system, helping shift the body from a state of stress to rest

  • Reduce physical symptoms such as chronic tension and pain

  • Help emotional regulation by encouraging deep relaxation

I have helped many clients with PTSD, and they have described feeling lighter and more emotionally balanced after our sessions. Some of my patients have also told me that they feel Bowen has allowed a better breath, by enabling the lungs to fully expand and take a deep breath.

I will always encourage anyone new coming to me with this condition to seek support from a mental health professional if they’re not already. Bowen Therapy can be a powerful part of your healing journey, but in tandem with other therapy.
